Guru,shishya and their relationship

         Gurur Brahmah gurur vishnu gurur devo maheshwarah
          Gurur saakshat Pr brahmah Tsmai Shri Gur ve nNamah

This is a sankrit couplet (sholoka) that has been taught to all achildern in india to impress upon their tendwer minds the impotace of as Guru. The couplet avers that the Guru is nothing bur personification of the holy trinity of the pantheon of hindu Gods viz Lord brahma (the Creator ) Lord vishnu (the preserver) and Lord Maheshwar or shiva (the DESTROYER) . TO THAT DIVINE GURU I BLOW DOWN IN SUPPLICATION 

The word guru comes from the sanskrit word Gu menaing darkness and RU which is the derivative of the verb form hru hr menaing to kill or slay hence the word guru translates into dispeller or slayer of darkness or ingorance .They say in india Maataa param m Guru meaning mother is the firsty and best guru . it is mother who brings up her child inculating in him the values of the life .It is the she who encourages the child to take his first step in life utter the first syllable eat the first morsel pray to the Almighty by holding his hands together in supplication instilling in him a sense of rhythm by holding him close to her heart so that he can relate to her heart ,sings lullabies to him- giving him his first taste of soothing music.
